Seasonal depression is real but there are ways to cope. Besides, we all deserve moments of self-care, no matter the season or the reason. Some people love the change in seasons, from the hot summer to the cold winter, while others struggle, physically and mentally. In the cold weather, our bodies tend to naturally tense up and it becomes fairly hard to relax. Relaxation of the mind, body, and soul is essential for your health, whether it is physical, mental, or even emotional. Here are a few self-care ideas you should implement this winter and beyond:
1. Take a Bubble Bath
Bubble baths are amazing, point blank period! It is a way to pamper yourself and give you time to focus purely on you. More importantly, bubble baths are an easy way to let your body heal and relax. The hot water can help ease the muscle tension, but will also make you sweat, unfortunately – but this is a good thing. Sweating is allowing your body to release the toxins within and any other unwanted materials. Hope in that bath, add those bubbles, and let go of all that negativity!
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! The winter time can really dry the skin out due to the cold, dry air and harsh conditions that come with it. You should definitely keep up with moisturizing consistently to maintain your healthy skin and a healthy glow. I’ve read that some dermatologist suggest that the best time to moisturize is right after a shower, when your skin is damp. This is because the moisturizer will trap the moisture that is already on the skin. Remember we need healthy, glowing skin all through the year!
3. At-Home Mani/Pedi
I love giving myself manicures and pedicures, plus I love that I am saving money! At-home mani’s and pedi’s is another way to give yourself some “you” time. Listening to some good music while doing such will also add to occasion and can boost your mood. I am actually starting to do my own nails at home using a polygel kit – I’ve been binge watching YouTube videos on how to use and it seems fairly easy. I will most definitely share my results.
4. Start a Gratitude Journal
Gratitude journals can be life-changing. Gratitude journals are more than just diaries where you write what you are grateful for. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to increase positivity, improve self-esteem, reduce stress, and make you happier 😊. When you focus on good things, you naturally become more positive. Keeping a journal is a private activity where you can track your own achievements and growth! I recommend lighting your favorite candle while noting in your journal, as it creates a great space to be with yourself and your thoughts.

Get into shape and take care of yourself, mentally and physically. Working out can help reduce stress levels, boost self-esteem and confidence, and help you sleep. These are areas that deserve your time and attention to create the best you. Make your workouts fun, get a personal trainer, or do whatever is needed to get you up and active. People usually never regret working out and thank themselves later for it because of the benefits they reap. Get up and just do it ✔
Hopefully (fingers-crossed), winter flies by and warm weather will be knocking on our door. But for now, winter is here to stay awhile and we should make the best of it. If you struggle during this season, please take a step back and indulge in things that will get you by and boost your mood. There are always positives!
At the end of the day, please just remember to take care of your mind, your body, and your soul. Do things that make you feel good and make you want to do more. Self-care is important! I hope you all take these ideas into consideration and use them to show yourself a little love ❤
